Navratri in the Netherlands
(expected)
Also called Sharad Navratri, Durga Puja, नवरात्रि.
Sources differ on whether Ghatasthapana falls on 11 or 12 October. Dussehra on 20 October is agreed.
Sharad Navratri runs nine nights and ends with Dussehra on the tenth. This is the festival with the most going on in the Netherlands already — garba and dandiya nights run in Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Utrecht, Rotterdam and Eindhoven through the nine days, and Bengali families run Durga Puja pandals over the last four.
What people usually want help with is not the dancing. It is the ghatasthapana on the first morning, fasting food that is actually sourced (singhare ka atta and sabudana are not in a Dutch supermarket), and somewhere to put twenty people for a evening at home.
What we arrange
- Ghatasthapana on the first morning, with a pandit if you want one
- Vrat food — sabudana, singhare ka atta, sendha namak, all ordered in
- Chaniya choli and dandiya sticks sourced before the first night
- A hall or private room for a family garba evening
- Kanya pujan on Ashtami or Navami, including the food for it
Sourcing takes about 28 days for this one, so tell us by .
