Dussehra in the Netherlands
Also called Vijayadashami, दशहरा.
Dussehra closes Navratri. In north India it is Ravana dahan; in Bengal it is Bijoya and the immersion; in the south it is Ayudha Puja and Vidyarambham, the day a child is first taught to write. All of it is one date.
In the Netherlands the effigy is generally not happening — open burning is restricted almost everywhere. What does happen is the puja at home, Ayudha Puja on a car or a laptop, and a good lunch. Families starting a business or moving into a house often pick this date, which is where we usually come in.
What we arrange
- Ayudha Puja at home or at a business premises
- Vidyarambham for a child, with the rice tray and a pandit
- Shami leaves and marigold, both ordered rather than substituted
- Lunch for the family, pure veg or Jain
- A griha pravesh timed to the date, if you are moving
Sourcing takes about 21 days for this one, so tell us by .
