Dhanteras in the Netherlands
Also called Dhantrayodashi, धनतेरस.
Dhanteras opens the five days of Diwali. The custom is to buy something in metal — gold, silver, or failing that a steel vessel — and to light a lamp at the door for Yama in the evening.
In the Netherlands the buying is straightforward; Amstelveen and the Indian jewellers in the Randstad are used to the date and get busy. What people ask for is the lamps, the rangoli at the door, and someone to tell them what the actual muhurat is for their city rather than for Delhi.
What we arrange
- Diyas and wicks, enough for the whole five days
- Rangoli at the entrance, laid the morning of
- Puja thali with the items your family's version needs
- Marigold for the door, ordered a fortnight ahead
- Puja timings calculated for your city, not for India
Sourcing takes about 14 days for this one, so tell us by .
