Raksha Bandhan in the Netherlands
Also called Rakhi, रक्षाबंधन.
Raksha Bandhan is a sister tying a thread on her brother's wrist. The ritual is five minutes. Everything difficult about it here is logistics.
Post from India to the Netherlands runs two to three weeks and is not reliable to the day, so rakhis sent late arrive late. Families who have learned this either send in the first week of August or buy here — Amstelveen and the Indian shops in the Randstad stock them from mid-July.
What we arrange
- Rakhi and tilak thali sourced locally, when the post will not make it
- Mithai delivered to a brother in another Dutch city on the day
- Lunch at home for a family that is together
- Eggless cake, if that is what the day looks like in your house
Sourcing takes about 10 days for this one, so tell us by .
