Paryushan in the Netherlands
Dates for Paryushan are still being confirmed for the years we cover.
Also called Paryushana Parva, Das Lakshana, Samvatsari.
Paryushan is the most serious period in the Jain year — eight days for Svetambara, ten for Digambara as Das Lakshana — of fasting, pratikraman and study. It ends on Samvatsari with Michhami Dukkadam, asking forgiveness of everyone.
The food during it is exacting: no root vegetables, nothing after sunset, and for many families no green vegetables at all on certain days. Sunset in the Netherlands in late August is around half past eight, which shortens the eating window more than people expect when they arrive.
What we arrange
- Daily Jain meals for the whole period, cooked and delivered before sunset
- Parne food for the day a fast breaks
- A hall for pratikraman if you are hosting
- Sunset times for your city for each day, in writing
Dates
